Geography is a valued part of the curriculum at Cambridge Primary School as it provides a means of exploring, appreciating and understanding the world in which we live and how it has evolved. Geography explores the relationship between the Earth and its people.

Geography stimulates curiosity and imagination and we aim to build upon the child's "personal geography" by developing geographical skills, understanding and knowledge through studying places and themes. We encourage children to learn by experience and we value fieldwork as an integral part of the Geography Curriculum.

There is a whole school approach to planning using the National Curriculum's six key skills. The Key Skills for an Excellent and Enjoyable curriculum are used to develop a cross-curricular, skills based learning environment.

The school provides opportunity for children to undertake geographical inquiry, apply skills and techniques, collect and analyse evidence, draw conclusions and communicate findings in a variety of ways e.g. questionnaires, graphs, tables, databases etc. Children use maps at various scales and plans, fieldwork, instruments, I.C.T. and other sources of evidence such as photographs, newspapers and visitors to inform their work.                                                                                                 

At Cambridge Primary School the children learn about a wide range of geographical themes, such as, hot and cold climates, the local community, London, rain-forests, India, the Furness area, coastlines, mountains, and much, much more. We think it is very important that children understand that they are part of the Global Community.
