Gardening Club
During the spring and summer term Mrs. Bannister holds an after school gardening club on Thursday evening which is open to all key stage 2 children. During this club the children are able to take part in lots of gardening activities from the usual weeding, planting, pruning and watering to the planning of the areas around the school and the making of decisions about what should be planted, where and when. The children are very enthusiastic, even when lots of hard digging work is required and they particularly enjoy things like the planting of seed potatoes at the beginning of the spring term and the picking of the raspberries and strawberries in the summer term, (some of which never get as far as the school fridge!)
We have very large outdoor growing areas in school which now include a poly tunnel and we are therefore able to grow lots of our fruit and vegetables from seed. This enables all the children to learn about and enjoy the process of planting and growing and gives them a sense of achievement when they can then eat what they have grown.
We are always happy to welcome new children to our gardening club as there are always plenty jobs to be done. Why not come along and see for yourself!
